Asherman's Syndrome

Hey! I have a syndrome! It's called Asherman's Syndrome. Read about it on Wikipedia here.

Mine started shortly after June was born. Her placenta took over an hour to deliver when the average time is around 30 minutes. I was warned that I may have some retained products of conception (or retained placenta) and that we would keep an eye on it. Two weeks post-partum I started to have pain that was worse than labor. I rushed to the ER and they concluded that I did, in fact, have retained placenta and that I would have to have an emergency D&C. This wasn't performed by Dr. Man* because I had made the mistake of going to the wrong hospital, not thinking it was related to the baby.

This surgery set the ball rolling on a series of problems. Not three weeks later, I was back in the ER with more severe pain. The second D&C was a success - for a while. Fast forward through D&Cs three and four, two blood transfusions and two hysteroscopies. I was finally diagnosed with Asherman's Syndrome after ruling out endometriosis among other disorders.

At this time we've concluded that the Asherman's is a direct result of the first D&C. It was not performed delicately enough and began the scarring of my uterus. The pain is at times excruciating, at times manageable and at times nearly gone. I currently only have about 70-75% healthy tissue left in my uterus.

If you or someone you know has or think they have Asherman's Syndrome, please feel free to contact me! I would love to support you and walk you through everything I've been through!

  1. Hi Amber, pls shed me a light here, I found your site when googling abt asherman. I was prescribed by my obgyn provera 10mg and progynova 2mg for 10 days here. I did my d&c last 24 mar via in vitro due to BO, and never get my PMS after that (2.5 months til now). My obgyn mentioned abt asherman syndrome which totally scared me. I am so devastated. Write me back, will you? Thank you.
